Give your teeth the royal treatment
Dental crowns are tooth shaped caps placed over damaged areas of a tooth in order to restore the tooth to full function and give you back your beautiful smile. Crowns can be placed for cosmetic or functional purposes. Dental crowns are resilient and will function just like your natural teeth. If you have been searching for a dentist in San Luis Obispo who places crowns, look no further!
Why would I need a crown?
If you are in pain due to a cracked, broken, or decayed tooth, Dr. Colleran may need to place a crown to protect the remaining healthy tooth as well as fortify the tooth so you can bite normally.
The first step in the process is removing the decay from your affected tooth or teeth. After this is done, impressions will be taken and sent to a lab that will craft your crown for a precise fit. While this happens, you’ll wear a temporary that blends with your natural teeth so you can keep smiling with confidence.
The second part of the process is placing your permanent restoration. We’ll ensure the new tooth feels exactly like the rest of your natural teeth, then cement the crown. The finished product is a beautifully restored smile!
You have options when it comes to the materials used for your crown, and Dr. Colleran can go over each of them with you and explain why one may be preferable over another (a base metal crown may not provide the most comfortable fit, and porcelain fused to metal doesn’t have the translucency of our natural teeth, for example).
Dental crowns are more than a cosmetic repair; crowns protect the damaged teeth from further complications, as they are strong enough to endure regular eating and drinking.
